Frequently Asked Questions about the Frock Swap
What is a frock swap?
A frock swap is an event where women of the community swap clothing.
Clothes that women no longer want are brought to a specified location (in our case the Hemmens) and traded for credits. Then a few days later after the clothes have all been collected and "priced" the doors are open for those who want to trade their credits for the other items that have been donated.
Swapping is a great way to get a new wardrobe and still stay on a budget!
How many items can I bring?
We will accept as many items as you would like to bring but will only issue credits for up to 10 items (a maximum of 30 points). The rest we can only take as a donation.
Who can participate?
The frock swap is limited to juniors and womens clothing for now but all are welcome to attend the event.
How much does it cost?
Donating clothes is free. However there is a $10 per person charge at the door to enter the swap, you can pay in advanced at the clothing drop-off. All proceeds from this event go to the Community Crisis Center of Elgin.

Where is the Hemmens located?
The Hemmens is located at 45 Symphony Way in Elgin, Illinois

Is there convenient parking available?

Yes, there is plenty of parking,

Will there be fitting rooms?
Yes, fitting rooms will be available.

Can I bring a friend with me during “swapper hours” even if they didn’t donate items?

You may bring only one friend into the boutique during the swapper hours but they will not be able to purchase items until the “shopper hours.”

Can I save my  voucher for next year?
No, we can not accept credits from the previous year, and we will not be able to refund your items if you have leftover credits, so make sure to get to the swap early  to get your hands on the best finds.

What happens if you don’t find anything you like?
If at the end of the night you do not find anything suitable for you to take home, all is not lost. You will have had an enjoyable evening and you will have contributed to a worthy cause - helping victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

If there are any clothes left over where will they go?
Any remaining items will be donated to the Goodwill. Women staying in shelter are provided with vouchers to use at the Goodwill so they will have an opportunity to benefit from your donations as well. Sorry, we cannot return items to original donors.

What happens if I cannot attend?
Unfortunately we cannot issue refunds for unused tickets or credits. But you can transfer tickets and credits to another person. All unused credits will be forfeited.

Can swappers shop during “shopper hours”?
Yes, after the “swapper hours” are finished. The boutique will be cleared of all people for a short period of time; during which signs will be posted indicating the cash prices for items. Swappers will be asked to check their “purchases” with staff and will be provided with a check-in ticket. When the doors reopen both swappers and shoppers can commence shopping.
